A complete, research-grade protocol for using an ORYN peptide pen, written for laboratory and in-vitro study contexts. Every step is derived from the standard operating procedure we publish with our Certificate of Analysis. Research use only — ORYN does not provide medical, therapeutic or self-administration guidance.
WHAT YOU NEED
Take the peptide pen out of the fridge and let it reach room temperature on a clean benchtop. Room-temperature liquid injects more comfortably and reduces discomfort at the injection site.
Look at the cartridge against a bright white background. The solution should be clear to slightly opalescent, with no visible particles, crystals, or discoloration. Check the cartridge for cracks and the plunger seal for dislodgement.
Remove the paper tab from a fresh pen needle and screw it onto the pen tip until it is hand-tight. ORYN pens accept standard Luer-style insulin pen needles (29G–34G, 4–8 mm length). 31G × 5 mm is the most common research choice.
Dial the dose selector to 2 units, hold the pen upright with the needle pointing up, and press the plunger fully. A small droplet of solution should appear at the needle tip. This primes the pen and confirms the mechanism is working.
Rotate the dose dial until the intended research dose appears in the viewing window. Each click advances the dose by the pen's click increment (printed on the pen label). The mechanism is calibrated at the factory — always follow the click increment shown on your specific pen.
Clean the injection site with an isopropanol swab and let it dry for 5–10 seconds. For subcutaneous delivery, researchers typically rotate between abdomen (2 cm away from the navel), upper outer thigh, and outer upper arm. Pinch the skin gently to lift a subcutaneous fold.
Insert the needle fully into the pinched skin fold. 45° works well with 4 mm needles; 90° works well with 5–6 mm needles. Press the plunger all the way down until the dose selector returns to zero, then hold the pen in place for 10 seconds to ensure the full dose is delivered.
Pull the needle straight out along the insertion angle. Apply gentle pressure with a cotton pad if there is any bleeding. Unscrew the used needle and dispose of it in an approved sharps container — never recap a used needle (recapping risks finger-stick injuries).
Replace the pen cap and return the pen to the fridge at 2–8 °C. Do not freeze. The pen remains stable for 30 days after first use, with a target of 2–3 uses per week for most research protocols. Record each use in a research log alongside the batch number printed on the pen label for full traceability.
